The harbour town of Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife

Anstruther

Award-winning fish & chips and so much more

The largest village along the East Neuk stretch of Fife coast, Anstruther is a real treat and one of the most popular destinations for day trips. It's also home to some award-winning fish and chips! Just 3.5 miles from Crail — a short drive or a beautiful walk along the Fife Coastal Path through Cellardyke.

Anstruther Fish Bar

Regularly voted the best fish and chip shop in Scotland (and often the whole UK), the Anstruther Fish Bar is a pilgrimage for foodies. Expect queues at peak times — it's worth the wait. Eat in or take your fish supper down to the harbour wall.

Scottish Fisheries Museum

An excellent museum telling the story of Scotland's fishing industry from the earliest times to the present day. Housed in a group of historic buildings around a courtyard overlooking the harbour. A fascinating visit for all ages.

Isle of May Boat Trips

Anstruther harbour is the departure point for boat trips to the Isle of May — a National Nature Reserve famous for its puffin colonies, seabirds, and grey seals. Trips run from April to September.

The Harbour & Dreel Halls

Anstruther's picturesque harbour is lovely to explore, with fishing boats, sailing dinghies, and views across the Firth of Forth. The town itself has a good selection of shops, galleries, and restaurants.

Cellardyke

Essentially joined to Anstruther, Cellardyke is a pretty fishing village in its own right with a particularly photogenic harbour. The walk from Crail to Anstruther via Cellardyke along the coastal path is one of the best short walks in Fife.

Anstruther Golf Course

Opened in 1891, a charming 9-hole links designed by Old Tom Morris, stretching between Pittenweem and Anstruther with stunning coastal views.
