The Village of Crail

Scotland's most charming fishing village

You'll find much to explore and lots to do in the friendly little town of Crail. The Honeypot is perfectly situated in the centre of the village, putting everything within a few minutes' walk. With its picturesque harbour, winding cobbled streets, beautiful old buildings, and thriving community of independent shops and cafes, Crail is a destination in its own right.

Eat Fresh Lobster at the Harbour

Crail's tiny harbour is one of the most photographed spots in Scotland. Just a few minutes' walk from the Honeypot, it's the perfect place for an evening stroll. Sample the catch of the day direct from the Reilly brothers, who land most days throughout the season — fresh lobster and crab straight off the boat. It doesn't get much better than that.

Spend a Day at Roome Bay Beach

Roome Bay Beach is a south-facing sandy beach with rock pools at the water's edge. The combination of cove, sand and rock pools makes for a great day out exploring, walking and sunbathing (if you're lucky!). At one end is a disused swimming pool that is now a haven for wildlife, and there's a grassy area with a children's playground.

The coastline is part of the Firth of Forth Ramsar site, protecting wetland habitats and species. You can access Roome Bay Beach off Roome Bay Crescent — around a ten minute walk from the centre of Crail and the Honeypot.

Visit Crail Pottery

All pieces are hand thrown on the wheel, decorated, glazed and fired in the Crail Pottery workshops in the heart of the town. A wonderful place to browse and pick up a unique souvenir.

Try Your Hand at Fishing

Crail is quite a rocky prospect for shore fishing, but charter boats can be hired for up to twelve people for some excellent sea fishing. Game options include several stocked waters for brown and rainbow trout, and there are some interesting points for salt water sea trout fishing using spun fish strip or classic lures.

Walk or Cycle the Fife Coastal Path

The Fife Coastal Path passes right through Crail, making the village a perfect stopping point for walkers. The Kingdom of Fife Millennium Cycle Ways are also a must — if you are staying with us, why not explore the Crail to Kellie route of 19 miles? It takes you through lots of farmland and past Kellie Castle National Trust gardens. You can detour into Pittenweem and explore the hilly wynds and closes between its fisher houses.

Crail Farmers' Market

The Crail Farmers' Market runs on the first Saturday of each month (June to September) in the historic Marketgate. It's a wonderful way to experience local food producers, artisan bakers, and Scottish crafts.

Shopping & Galleries

Crail has a wonderful selection of independent shops and galleries. Browse pottery studios, art galleries, and gift shops along the High Street and Marketgate. On Sundays in summer, local artisans open their doors to visitors.
